FIRESTONE — A hit movie and some new features helped kick off the first Food & Flick Friday event June 6 at Hart Park in Firestone.
Organizers estimated more than 800 people gathered at Hart Park for the event, which included a screening of the hit Disney film “Frozen” and an appearance from two performers dressed as the princesses from the film, who visited with guests and performed prior the the screening.
In addition to the usual games and live music that have been a park of the movies-in-the-park programming in past years, this year’s kick-off event also featured a number of food trucks. Organizers say the trucks on hand at the event managed to sell out of the food they had on hand within a few hours, and that Firestone town officials are looking to book more food trucks to be on hand for future Food & Flick Friday events.
In a release about the event, organizers touted the Carbon Valley Park & Recreation District keeping things lively with movie-focused games such as freeze tag, frozen toezies, snowman building and ice cube races. Face painting decorated kids’ faces with princess crowns and cartoon characters.
The Frederick-Firestone Fire Protection District also made an appearance at the event with a fire truck for kids to check out and have photos taken with firemen. Ash Ganley provided live music, and event sponsor Encana Oil & Gas provided free water and popcorn as the movie started.
The next Food & Flick Friday is this week on June 20 at Hart Park. Music will be played by Danny Shafer, and the movie of the night will be Disney’s “The Little Mermaid.”
