FORT LUPTON — Three words are always sure to draw the public’s attention: free ice cream.
Crowds quickly gathered at Barker’s Coffeehouse Ya Ya for the grand opening celebration June 29 featuring free confections from Little Man Ice Cream.
The opening introduced the public to the new coffee shop located at 701 Fourth St. next to Wholly Stromboli in the St. John Building.
Lorilyn Barker, who runs the businesses with her husband, Art, said she had seen the building for 10 years before a spot opened up.
“It’s a great location,” Barker said. “When the Fort Lupton Vision Center moved down the street, it created a great opportunity.”
The grand opening party featured a DJ, prize raffles, musical chairs, stained glass artwork, coloring contests and an inflatable jump house from Little Man Ice Cream shaped like a giant metal milk jug.
“We’ve got a really nice relationship with Little Man,” Barker said. “They’re a Denver-based company that is really particular about who they’ll do business with, and what buildings they’ll go into. They don’t go into strip malls. They’re really into revitalizing the community, which is something we’re about also.”
Melissa Rickman, the owner of Wholly Stromboli, said she was thrilled to have Barker’s Coffeehouse Ya Ya move in next door.
“It’s amazing!” Rickman said. “It’s nice to have another retail partner in the building to help revitalize downtown Fort Lupton.”
