FREDERICK — Tobias Kridel, a firefighter/engineer with the Frederick-Firestone Fire Protection District, was honored as a 2012 Community Hero during the Carbon Valley Rotary Club’s annual awards ceremony last month.
“I believe that Firefighter Toby Kridel is very deserving of the Carbon Valley Hero’s Award for all his efforts since 2000,” said Division Chief Dave Puccetti. “Toby is always willing to help out and go the extra mile.”
Kridel began his career with the Frederick-Firestone Fire Protection District in 2000. At that time, the district had a limited staff to support both emergency operations and fire prevention, and Kridel was assigned to emergency operations as an engineer.
His primary duties were to drive and operate the fire engine he was assigned to at Station 1 in Frederick, but Kridel went above and beyond and helped the district develop and implement many programs, including the Santa Run, Fire Prevention Week, Candy Sack Program, Community CPR/AED, shoveling snow for the elderly, district maps and child car seat safety inspections.
The Carbon Valley Rotary Club recognized a local firefighter, police officer and five teachers for their extraordinary commitment to serving others in the Carbon Valley community during its 2012 Community Heroes Awards. Each honoree received a plaque and a written summary providing the details for why they had been chosen.
