FREDERICK — Georgia Boys BBQ, the folks who own and operate The Smokehouse at 141 Fifth St. in downtown Frederick, have wasted little time in growing the business.
The Frederick location — the second in the area for co-owners Matt Alexander and Nick Reckinger — already has plans to expand their outdoor patio and dining area after having opened in January.
Georgia Boys BBQ announced last month the launching of a crowdfunding campaign on CommunityFunded.com to raise the funds to pay for adding to The Smokehouse’s outdoor area.
The renovated patio would feature up to 40 additional seats with garage doors connecting
to the inside and outside of the restaurant as well as a custom railing that opens to Crist Park. With those upgrades, customers would be able to sit on the patio and enjoy the Downtown Sounds concert series as the band plays.
“Picturing our community enjoying delicious comfort food and local beer from the open-air Smokehouse patio is truly a dream come true for us,” said co-owner Matt Alexander in a news release about the crowdfunding campaign. “We’re excited to use crowdfunding to build something that our whole town can be proud of.”
In order to raise the $25,000 needed to fund the patio expansion through Community Funded, Georgia Boys BBQ is offering rewards for donations ranging from $10 pints of beer or barbecue sauce to a $1,000 catered event for top funders. Everyone who donates $100 or more will be invited to a private VIP party.
“From a business angle, Frederick is experiencing rapid growth--thriving businesses like Georgia Boys BBQ are just one example,” said Mayor Tony
Carey. “We’re witnessing a revitalization of downtown Frederick, and I can’t wait to see our community rally together to expand The Smokehouse.”
