GREELEY — A 61-year-old Fort Lupton man faces five formal charges for his part in a crash near Fort Lupton this summer.
Dana Beales’ next court appearance is at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 17. The Weld County District Attorney’s Office charged him with vehicular homicide, third-degree assault of a first responder, two counts of reckless endangerment and reckless driving.
Prosecutors believe there could be a disposition of this case at the December appearance.
The Colorado State Patrol said Beales was behind the wheel of a car that killed a tow-truck driver and injured a state trooper. It happened on U.S. Highway 85 between Brighton and Fort Lupton. Troopers said Beales was traveling south on U.S. Highway 85 when his Ford truck crashed into a CSP vehicle that was blocking traffic for the tow operator, Martin Braden, of Aurora. The Ford then struck Braden, who died at the scene. The trooper, Scott Rendfrey, sustained what the state patrol called “moderate injuries.”
