LOVELAND -- Thompson Valley jumped out to a quick start and beat Frederick 70-51 in the first round of the state 4A boys basketball playoffs Feb. 21 on the Eagles' floor.
TVHS had a 20-7 first-quarter lead, and the Warriors had a tough time playing catch-up. Three-point baskets by Dalton Hall and Lucas Adams cut the gap to six at the end of the third quarter. But Thompson Valley's Jonny Pomerleau scored the first five points of the third quarter to allow the Eagles to regain the momentum.
"The start is what killed us," Adams said. "When you start down 20-7, especially in a playoff game, it's tough to get back into the game. We didn't come out with the defensive intensity we knew would be the key. We didn't get stops."
No stats were immediately available Tuesday night for either team.
Thompson Valley improves to 13-11 and will visit one of the four top seeds, Lewis Palmer, Friday. Frederick ended its season with a record of 12-12, this after starting the campaign 2-8.
