GREELEY — Deputy Weld County Clerk and Outreach Coordinator Tony Trevino announced his candidacy for Weld County Clerk and Recorder last week.

Trevino, a lifelong resident of Weld County and graduate of the University of Northern Colorado, has worked with the clerk’s office since 2006. He has worked as a frontline clerk in the three departments the clerk and recorder oversees: Motor Vehicle, Elections and Recording.

“My experience as a frontline clerk learning the core functions of how our office works in all three departments is what qualifies me to be the next clerk and recorder,” Trevino said in a news release announcing his candidacy. “In my current position as outreach coordinator for the clerk’s office, I continue to work with the three departments daily focusing on more administrative issues, furthering my understanding of the office.  As your clerk and recorder, I will be committed to providing outstanding customer service to the citizens of Weld County.  I will work to decrease wait times at the motor vehicle office; increase electronic filings in our recording office and as chief election official maintain fair, accurate and transparent elections.”

Trevino is certified by the Colorado Secretary of State as a Colorado Election Official and this year will complete his National Election Certification.

Recently, Tony was selected by Weld County Clerk Steve Moreno to manage the county clerks historical scan project. The project — which digitized all of the county clerk’s historical records from 1865 to the present — took two years to complete.

Trevino is an active member of the Greeley Young Professionals and a past member of its steering committee. Currently Tony is a member of the Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church Parish Finance Council, the United Way Community Investment Council, and he serves as a representative to the Weld County Republican Executive Committee.

Trevino grew up in LaSalle where his family has owned and operated a local trucking company for more than 50 years.

Current Clerk and Recorder Steve Moreno had previously announced a bid to test the county’s term limits last year. Carly Koppes announced her candidacy for Clerk and Recorder last September.
