Weld County Transportation ends service

By The Staff

GREELEY – Weld County Transportation ended operations Feb. 18.
The reason, according to the Weld County commissioners, was declining ridership – near zero, according to a recent statement.
The program, which used demand-response to the general public served Firestone, Frederick, Dacono and Fort Lupton as well as other parts of Weld County. Reservations had to be made two business days in advance.
The state contracted with First Transit Jan. 1 to provide services to residents on Medicaid in nine counties, including Weld. Before First Transit entered the picture, Weld County Transportation provided those services.
The county said First Transit’s ability to provide less costly transportation services and the shift in riders from the county transportation program to First Transit contributed to the decision to end the First Transit program.
