  • Reflections on a year of sharing my opinions with you

This week’s column is a major milestone.
Perhaps there have been some bigger, but to me, this one is quite big. This week’s issue marks one year that I have been writing a column for the Commerce City Sentinel Express as well as the other MetroWest newspapers.
To say that writing a column for the local paper is an ego boost would be like saying Custer had Indian problems.

It’s hard to focus too long on the 2013 Kia Sportage.
The car before us is currently one of the best-selling compact crossovers in the U.S. right now, a four-door sales behemoth that produces only 176 horsepower in base trim. I mean, it’s not as if the Sportage speeds away like an Internet conspiracy theory with power numbers like that. Something else is afoot here.

  • Parents are the key to safe teen drivers

Car crashes are considered to be the No. 1 killer of teens, claiming more than 3,000 young lives every year. That’s 11 teen deaths each day that can be prevented.
As a parent, you should know that the main cause of teen crashes is driver inexperience. All new drivers — even straight-A students and “good kids” — are more likely than experienced drivers to be involved in a fatal crash. It’s a fact.
