  • Swim lessons

    Registration for fall swim lessons continues through Sept. 30. Call 303-833-3660.
     

  • Youth basketball

    Registration for third- through eighth-grade basketball runs through Oct. 16 at the Carbon Valley Recreation Center.
        Third- through sixth-graders will play in the North Valley Athletic Association league starting in early December. Practices are during the week. The fee is $55 for residents and $60 for nonresidents.
        Seventh- and eighth-teams will participate in a league in Longmont and begin practice in January.
        Fees are $65 for residents and $70 for nonresidents.

  • Mead Mavericks baseball tryouts

        Free tryouts for the Mead Mavericks, an eighth-grade (14U) spring high school team, will be having tryouts at the Mead High School baseball field from 5 to 7 p.m., Sept. 25.

  • Preschool basketball

        Registration for the preschool, kindergarten, first-grade and second-grade youth basketball program at the Carbon Valley Recreation Center starts Dec. 13 and continues through Jan. 8.
        First- and second-grade divisions practice in early February. Games are Saturdays against other area teams. The preschool and kindergarten division involves no games but plenty of works on fundamental skills Fees are $35 for resident ($40 for non-residents). Call 303-833-3660.

  • Santa Cops golf tournament

        This tournament will help support the Santa Cops program sponsored by the Dacono, Frederick and Firestone Police Departments. It’s set for Oct. 9.
    Santa Cops, in its 18th year, purchases and distributes toys for children from birth to 15 who might otherwise not receive presents for Christmas.
    The format is a four-person scramble, and the cost includes 18 holes of golf, cart, range balls and lunch. Prizes for the longest drive, closest to the pin and prize drawings.

  • Women on Weights

        A five-week introductory course for women who want to be regular weight lifters is available at the Carbon Valley Recreation Center starting at 10 a.m. Oct. 2.
        The class will help participants learn about the benefits of regular weight lifting minus all the noises and crowds in a weight room. The fee is $5 for the five-week series. Call 303-833-3660.

     

  • Meet the trainers

        The chance for a free visit with a personal trainer is from 9 to 10:30 a.m., Sept. 25. The discussions can include fitness testing and body composition. Call 303-833-3660.
