  • Urban finishes sixth in state...

    LAKEWOOD -- Frederick's Makenzie Urban captured sixth place in the girls 800-meter run at the state 4A track and field meet Friday at Jeffco Stadium.

     

    She finished in a time of 2:18.76. She went into the race with the seventh-fastest time in the state this year, a 2:19.0 time at the last meet of the season, the St. Vrain Invitational.

    Urban, who is a junior, has one more race left at the state meet. The 1,600-meter run begins at 12:50 p.m. Saturday.

  • All-state football

        Frederick’s Jordan King is scheduled to be among the participants at the Colorado High School Coaches’ Association all-state football game in Alamosa June 8.
        Teammate Dalton Hall also made the roster. The game is at 7:15 p.m. at Adams State College.

  • Rec center news

        The deadline for youth tennis lessons is May 26, and registration for the summer Colorado Association of Recreational Athletics youth track program ends May 30.
        Swim lesson registration runs from May 18 through May 31. Also, the recreation center will offer youth boot camp, stroller and stride, a Buff Mom’s Club and a summer club camp that begin the first week of June.

  • Third annual Little Britches...

        HENDERSON – Brighton’s third annual Little Britches Rodeo is set to take place again this year. It’s the first weekend in June at the Adams County Fairgrounds.
        This event is free to the public, but if you plan on participating the contestants have to pay a fee for each event they enter. Almost 80 people were in last year’s rodeo vying for cash and prizes.

  • Firestone Special Olympics...

    The Firestone Special Olympics softball tournament comes to town June 16.
        The tournament is the season-opener for Special Olympians in Northeast Colorado. It’s a daylong event.
        “The town of Firestone is looking forward to making this an annual event with regional attraction from people to support approximately 350 Special Olympic athletes and 150 coaches in their sporting endeavors,” said communications and outreach coordinator Kristi Ritter.

  • FHS state track qualifiers...

    AURORA -- Frederick's Makenzie Urban qualified for the state track meet in the 800- and 1,600-meter runs.

     

    The 800-meter run finals are Friday at 12:20 p.m., and the 1,600-meter run finals are Saturday at 12:50 p.m.

    Also, the boys 4-by-100-meter relay team (Jacob Sleeth, Kevin Retchless, Joe Wise and Austin Kearney) made it. The preliminary race is at 9 a.m., Friday, and the finals are Saturday afternoon at 3:05 p.m.

    The state track meet is at Jeffco Stadium, U.S. Highway 6 and Kipling Street, Lakewood.
