  • Track: Erwin claims second place in 3,200-meter run at Weld Co. championships

    GREELEY -- Chris Erwin set a season-best time in the 3,200-meter run April 25 at the Boathouse Sports Welco Championships track meet at Nottingham Field in Greeley.

     

    Erwin finished second in a time of 9:59.04. He sits in 14th place in the state 4A rankings in this event with two events left in the regular season. The top 18 qualify for the state 4A track meet in Lakewood in mid-May. Fourteen of the top 18, 3,200-meter runners have broken the 10-minute mark this season.

  • Prep baseball .. Warriors nip Mead in extra innings .. twice

    MEAD -- Frederick pushed over a run in the ninth inning April 24 and beat Mead 6-5.

    The Warriors repeated the same scenario but needed one less inning to beat the Mavericks 5-4 in eight innings April 26.

    Lane Hiser's pool-cue shot to first base set up the events that led to the winning run at Mead. Matt Entrekin, who was the eventual winning pitcher, was able to score from second base after an infield error.

     

  • Rawson snatches fourth place in the discus at BoCo championship track meet

    BROOMFIELD -- Frederick's Nicole Rawson wound up fourth in the girls discus at the Boulder County track championships at Broomfield High School April 19. Her top throw measured 102 feet 2 inches.

    She also took sixth place in the shot put at 29 feet 3 inches.

     

  • Two Urbans provisionally qualify for NCAA Division II outdoor track meet

    NORWALK, CALIF. - Two former Frederick track-and-field athletes provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II outdoor track and field meet April 19.

    Alexa Urban finished the 800-meter run in a time of 2:12.88 to finish in 40th place at the Beach Invitational. Her time is the unofficial third-best in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and the 21st-fastest in NCAA Division II this season. Several times have yet to be reported from other meets.

  • Erwin takes second in the mile at Max Marr track meet

    BERTHOUD -- Frederick's Chris Erwin finished second in the 1,600-meter run at Saturday's Max Marr Spartan Classic track meet at Berthoud High School.

     

    Erwin, who just earned a scholarship to attend the Colorado School of Mines, finished the race in a time of 4:39.3. He also took sixth in the 800-meters, posting a time of 2:07.97.

    On the girls side, Jordan Sleeth wound up fourth in 100-meter dash, where her time was 13.18 seconds. Nicole Rawson took eighth in the discus at 93 feet 8 inches.

  • Prep baseball: Tigers nip Warriors in conference rematch

    ERIE — The saying goes that baseball is a game of inches.

     

    Frederick had a reminder of that axiom Saturday in its game against Erie. The Tigers used a two-run double from Kyle Blunt in the fifth inning to nip the Warriors 2-0.

  • Therrien, Dufour land postseason basketball honors

    AURORA -- Frederick's Alex Therrien and Alex Dufour earned spots on the second team of all-state boys basketball performers according to chsaanow.com, ColoradoPreps.com and MaxPreps.

     

    Dufour, a junior, averaged 12 points and four rebounds. Frederick finished 7-16. Therrien, a senior, averaged 15 points and five rebounds for the Warriors. FHS set a school record for wins with 18 and advanced to the second round of the state 4A playoffs.

  • Three Warriors among the best hoops players in Weld County

    GILCREST -- Three members of Frederick's basketball teams were busy March 18 -- playing basketball, of course.

     

    Shyanna Neu, Alex Therrien and Austin Rivera were among the players from Weld County chosen to participate in the boys and girls all-star games at Valley High School.

  • Erwin, Garland capture titles at Warriors Pow Wow

    FREDERICK -- Frederick's Chris Erwin won the boys 1,600-meter run at Saturday's Frederick Pow Wow Invitational.

    The senior posted a time of 4:54.08. He also turned in a fourth-place finish in the 800-meter run, where his time was 2:15.7.

     

    Hannah Garland won the girls shot put title. Her best toss was 29 feet. She also took second place in the discus at 94 feet 1 inch. Kelly Aragon was third in the 400-meter dash, posting a time of 1:10.49.

  • State 4A basketball field could shrink in 2015

    AURORA — The Colorado High School Activities Association’s basketball committee is thinking of cutting the state tournament field by a third. This year, 48 teams received invitations. Next year, the number could be 32.

    CHSAA’s legislative council has to approve the change at its meeting at the end of April.
